Target detection in urban scenarios using netted radar multipath signals

چکیده

In urban environments, multipath and obscuration by buildings decreases the ability of radar systems to detect targets and also increases the number of false alarms caused by image artefacts. To reduce these problems this paper proposes a network of low-cost easilydeployable radar sensors that are set up in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar configuration. An analysis is given of the signal processing required to combine the data from several co-operating radar sensors while using building information and including the effects of multipath propagation. The key part of this idea is that the known building positions from a database are used to determine the origin of multipath signals. This process enables the removal of artefacts and allows the sensors to “see around the corner” of buildings.

Efficiency of Target Location Scenarios in the Multi-Transmitter Multi-Receiver Passive Radar

Multi-transmitter multi-receiver passive radar, which locates target in the surveillance area by the reflected signals of the available opportunistic transmitter from the target, is of interest in many applications. In this paper, we investigate different signal processing scenarios in multi-transmitter multi-receiver passive radar. These scenarios include decentralized processing of reference ...

Multipath exploited Bayesian and Cramér-Rao bounds for single-sensor target localization

In urban scenarios, radar returns consist of a direct path return along with multipath returns from signal reflections off surfaces such as building walls or floors. When multipath is resolvable, and given the knowledge of the geometry of the reflecting surfaces, it has recently been demonstrated that multipath returns create additional “virtual” radar sensors, thereby permitting target localiz...

A New Method for Detection of Backscattered Signals from Breast Cancer Tumors: Hypothesis Testing Using an Adaptive Entropy-Based Decision Function

Introduction In recent years methods based on radio frequency waves have been used for detecting breast cancer. Using theses waves leads to better results in early detection of breast cancer comparing with conventional mammography which has been used during several years. Materials and Methods In this paper, a new method is introduced for detection of backscattered signals which are received by...

Directional Multipath Exploitation for Stationary Target Localization with a Single-Antenna

In this paper, we propose a new multipath exploitation approach for stationary urban target localization with a single radar unit. The proposed non-coherent approach utilizes the embedded directivity in ultra wideband (UWB) antennas to estimate target positions using interior wall multipath returns. We assume resolvability of the multipath components, which is made possible by virtue of using U...

Multipath analyses of moving targets in enclosed structures using Doppler radars

In through-the-wall radar and urban sensing applications, detection, localization, and classification of targets are highly desirable. The presence of the targets inside buildings, and in close proximity of walls, floors, and ceilings, leads to a rich multipath environment. Multipaths can introduce false targets, thereby degrading target detection, localization, and classification performances....
